On the eastern side of the plateau are some larger buildings (see fig. 5). These are built a lot closer together than the smaller huts suggesting a communal area or maybe a palace-like complex.
One odd thing to note about the site is that, despite being surrounded by hills that are mineral rich and that the site saw multi-period use, not one metal object was found during a very thorough excavation. There is even a lead minein the centre of the complex (see fig. 6).
The valley sides below were dotted with degenerate passage tombs many of which were destroyed when the new road was cut through the hillside below. Just one of these tombs can be seen today, but there is not a great deal left to see (see fig. 7).
Finding the road to reach this site isn't easy. The best route is take the road to Bolnuevo from Mazarron. This goes around several roundabouts before going through a deep cutting. Cabeza del Plomo is actually above you to the right at this point. Just as you exit from the cutting on a nasty bend there is a right turn. Take this road for around 150m to the sharp bend and you will see signposts to the site on the right.
