I have catagorised this as a wedge tomb, but there is every possibility that it is in fact a court tomb, due to its layout. However, this is not court tomb country and it may just be that the tomb shows some influence in design. There is a court tomb in south Waterford, though.
The tomb has two galleries, which are built back to back, one facing north and the other south. The northern tomb has a large stone set in front of the gallery, which is not in line with it and may represent a court. The backstone of this tomb is pointed and ideal for supporting corbels for the roof.
The southern gallery is more wedge-like, but both galleries are segmented by sill stones and jambs.
The overall condition of the tomb is poor, but I believe enough remains to allow a proper investigation to determine its true classification.

After some reading about I can confirm that this is definitely a court tomb. This tomb, Shanballyedmond, to the west, and Ballynamona Lower in Waterford, to the south, are the only court tombs south of a line drawn from Clare to Dundalk.
