Visit Notes

Sunday, 16th March 2003

When I found this tomb I thought it was a wedge tomb, but it is in fact a court tomb. The reason for my confusion was that it is a very buried tomb indeed. There is just a small chamber exposed to the east of the monument. What I thought where slightly displaced roof stones poking through the peat are, apparently corbels.

The exposed section faces east and there is some speculation as to whether it is actually a trancepted side chamber as can be found at Behy (County Mayo), but this is doubtful. Of the exposed stones a sill and walls can be determined but little else.
