From the road you can see a large lump of bedrock in the field and I thought at first that this is where the bullaun must be. However, whilst crossing to this lump of rock the real thing caught my eye. An earthfast boulder, flush with the field surface had a round patch of grass in its centre.
I quickly pulled at this turf and the massive bullaun cup was revealed. It measured 30cm across and I didn't reach the bottom! This is a very primal feeling bullaun with a feeling of extreme age to it.

From Carlow take the N80 south. After roughly 8km you will reach the 4th set of crossroads. Continue until you pass the next right hand turn. Just past this junction you should see some fairly new houses. Opposite these is a gate into the field. From the gate you can see a rock outcrop to the left 100m or so into the field. If you walk towards this you will pass right by the bullaun, but it is a tricky one to spot.
