The stone circles at Cong (or more properly at Glebe 1.5km NE of Cong) are fairly displaced from any others and represent a wide range of styles. It's almost like a stone circle showroom - come and choose your stone circle sir!
The main one is located on a small rise about 100m from the road - parking is terrible here - and fenced in behind a stark black railing. What remains reminds me more of a Scottish recumbent circle than an Irish axial one. Not many of the stone remain, but fortunately the recumbent and its flankers do.
It would have been 20m in diameter and it gives the impression that the stones were grouped in threes, but that could be complete rubbish.

The main reasons for revisiting these circles was firstly to show them to Uta and secondly to look for the fourth circle. When we arrived there was someone else in this circle who I got into a rather strange conversation with. I rarely see people at sites, so I always say hello when I do. I think I wish that I hadn't in this instance. As many of you will know I'm not really into Earth Energies and suchlike, so when he started talking about how they worked - meaning how stone circles work - and orbs of light I was a little short with him.
It's funny how, sometimes, you remember sites to be more complete than they are. This is a great site and I suppose its pleasant qualities make you remember it more fondly and thus as being more complete than it is.
