I have driven through Ferns a few times and I have always wondered about the what the 'logo' on the signs refers to. Well, now I know! It's the castle.
There is just one tower remaining complete with two sections of the wall connected to it. Another, much riuned tower stands close by. Sections of the rock-cut moat are open and very impressive.
Half way up the inside of one of the walls is a fire place that looks too good. It is then that you realise that the windows have been renovated too. However, it still give an impression of what the castle must have been like. A formidable fortress indeed occupying the highest point in Ferns.
