| Reask - Cross Pillar |
When most people/books mention Reask they talk primarily about the cross pillar and so I was not prepared to see the amazing quality of the monastic site here.
The walls remain to a height around 1m, some of them are higher, and define the site quite beautifully. It is very easy to appreciate the self-imposed hardship the monks lived in as the clochans (or stone huts) were very small. There are several round foundations and two square ones (oratories), the largest of the round ones interlink with each other and have an enclosed path to the rear of them, this may have been a cloister type structure.
The site is 120m by 50m and split into two unequal sections by a curvilinear wall.
