There are two wedge tombs in Loughash. This one which is quite lovely and the other one which is quite ugly. Guess which one is under state protection!

Back to this tomb. It is a very unusual one. It appears to be a cross over hybrid from wedge-tomb to court-tomb. I have classed it as a wedge because it's most distinctive features today are wedge-like.

You can easily make out the split portico entrance and determine the gallery. What seems like the middle of the gallery still retains a roofslab, but this is in fact the rear. There are two subsidary chambers built behind the main gallery. To the front are several stones that do not seem to fit in with the rest of the monument - this is because they are the remains of a small court.

The cairn was a fairly huge one. The traces that remain indicate that it was at least 18m across. The gallery (excluding court but including rear chambers) is 8m long.

Supposedly there is a stone circle just 200m SE of this tomb, but all we found whilst looking for it were wild raspberries - I'll settle for those.
