Visit Notes

Sunday, 23rd June 2002

I actually saw this from over 1km away - testament to its height - as it stands in a vast plane.

This was, once upon a time, the tallest round tower in Ireland, but it lost that distinction when it lost its cap. It is still massive though at over 30m tall, with 8 storeys inside. It now has an enormous lightning conductor running down its side and so I presume this is how the cap was lost in the first place.

It is all that is left of monastery founded by St. Ciaran of Saighir.
