Visit Notes

Sunday, 16th June 2002

When I was here the grass in the graveyard was nearly waist deep and as it had just been raining I got soaked just walking around. It took me a little while to find the way in to the courtyard and for a while I could only see tantalizing glimpses of the arched windows over the high walls.

Once in the graveyard you will see the grand facade of this 13th century building. A sign at the gate tells of the many times that the site was burned down and that some of the carvings here point to a romanesque church occupying the site before the current building. I could see none of these.

For the whole time that I was inside the actual ruins of the church the crows were going mental, flying around and 'caw'-ing manically.

Against one wall of the enclosure there is a small cell which looks as old in design as St. Mochta's Church in the field outside. In side this cell is a graveslab, which doesn't appear to be very old.
