Visit Notes

Sunday, 9th June 2002

This is a most interesting well. To the side of the path from the carpark to the abbey is an ash tree, adorned in the usual manner of wellside trees with ribbons, coins and other offerings.

Beneath this tree is the well. The tree is actually growing on the top of a vertical slab of rock that, with three others, forms a stone box sitting in the well pool. This really does look like a megalithic tomb that has sprung a major leak.
