A sad ruin with an equally sad tale to tell. Well, the tale was told to me by the owner of a nearby house. His family have owned this land for a while and 25 years ago his uncle decided that there may well be treasure in the old 'Giant's Grave', as it was known locally, so he dug it up with a JCB!
From his description it was definitely a portal tomb (one portal stone still stands, another lies smashed nearby). There is evidence of an extensive cairn and the roof slabs lies to the front of the tomb.
The siting of this tomb was special which makes its destruction all the more saddening. To the south west you have extensive views of Lough Ramor and directly south, between two low hills is Carnbane East, with the mighty cairn T very prominent and nipple like, at Loughcrew.
