This is a bit nasty to find as it is not in the church yard as I expected. It is situated beside a little spring to the north east of the church, 15m outside the graveyard enlosure.

It is a low flat earthfast boulder with a single bullaun measuring about 15cm in diameter and just 10cm deep.

After taking the time to read through the Wicklow Archaeological Inventory I was amazed to see that Roundwood Graveyard is host to three bullaun stones not one. I had no choice really - I had to stop here on the way to Glendalough and check them out.

That's it for today - 25 bullaun stones! What a great day. We searched high and low for the fourth stone mentioned by Liam Price to no avail.

Directions

From Roundwood take the R755 south and turn left at the first opportunity - signposted Roundwood Graveyard. At the top of the road you will see the church on your left, park here and walk around the east end of the church. You will see a part of the wall to your right that you can climb over. Enter the next field and go diagonally to your left under some barbed wire. You will see the bullaun next to a little spring.

About Coordinates Displayed

This is an explanation of (and a bit of a disclaimer for) the coordinates I provide.

Where a GPS figure is given this is the master for all other coordinates. According to my Garmin these are quite accurate.

Where there is no GPS figure the 6 figure grid reference is master for the others. This may not be very accurate as it could have come from the OS maps and could have been read by eye. Consequently, all other cordinates are going to have inaccuracies.

The calculation of Longitude and Latitude uses an algorithm that is not 100% accurate. The long/lat figures are used as a basis for calculating the UTM & ITM coordinates. Consequently, UTM & ITM coordinates are slightly out.

UTM is a global coordinate system - Universal Transverse Mercator - that is at the core of the GPS system.

ITM is the new coordinate system - Irish Transverse Mercator - that is more accurate and more GPS friendly than the Irish Grid Reference system. This will be used on the next generation of Irish OS maps.
