This peculiar stone would not seem worth a second look if it were not for the mythic associations it has. It derives its name, Cloch a Bhile, from its role as a representation of the supernatural tree that is said to grow in the bottom of the Lough ñ a possible representation of the Life Tree or Yggdrasil.
Its eroded form, covered in strange mosses, does resemble a trunkless tree squatting in amongst the brambles and it easy to see where the association may come from Ö or is the association seen because it is in your mind when you see it? Iím not sure.
The stone is just visible over the hedge 100m to the south of Grange Lios circle and accessible via a gate in the same field boundary.

From Bruff take the R512 north. 1km past the first crossroads you go through you will see a little car park on the right and a sign pointing to the Grange Lios circle. As you enter the field look to your right and you will see a gate into the next field. Go through this gate and the stone is just to your left.
