Visit Notes

Sunday, 21st April 2002

Well, I finally found the bullaun stone. I actually sttod within 20 paces of it when I visited the church! It's not really surprising that I didn't notice it though as the only visible bullaun is half buried.

This visible bullaun is enormous though at 25cm across and at least the same deep. Apparently, there is another of similar proportions buried beneath the soil.

My instant reaction to this great stone is that it wuld be much better if it was stood up the right way so that it was completely visible and could once again collect water.

Directions

Heading south from Dublin on the N11 take the first left turn after the Blackrock/Leopardstown junction and at the second major crossroads turn left. Take the first left into a housing estate and the church is on your left after just 150m. If you stand with your back to the gate to the church and look slightly to your left you will see a wall and a big boulder. That's the bullaun although the cup itself is on the opposite side.
