There are two things about this standing stone worth noting. One is its slender 3m form and the other is that it is supported by a steel rope tied to a nearby tree.
I think this must be one of the only stones in Ireland with this sort of extra help. The stone does lean but I am not sure that it really needs the support.

As we were close by it seemed like a good idea to take a quick look at this hausered standing stone. It was great to see that Slieve Donard is visible on the skyline from here, but the rest of The Mournes are hidden by nearer hills. I'm sure that this view is what inspired someone to erect a lovely standing stone here.
The monument has been excavated and a burial cist was discovered at its base.

Take the A25 north east from Downpatrick and take th fourth right hand turn. Bear to the left and continue to a t-junction. Turn left and then second right. At the next cross roads turn left and continue until you reach a farm. The stone stands very close to the road on the right by the farm.
