Visit Notes

Sunday, 24th February 2002

This is such a picturesque little site. It is situated in a small lough at the side of the N81, but I imagine hardly ever gets noticed due to the tress that line the lake.

It appears to be in good shape, still retaining its round outline. The small island is about 100m from the shore and approximately 30m in diameter.

The water level is high at the moment and so I do not know if there is any causeway.

Directions

There is only one spot to see this crannog from and that is not a nice place to stop. Take the N81 south from Dublin and shortly after you pass the third right turn off you will approach a solid white line down the middle of the road. About 15m before this there is just about enough room to pull in on the left. The lough and the crannog are just to your left here. Good luck.
