This round tower is almost complete, lacking just its conical roof. It stands in a little precinct opposite the amazing ruined doorway of a very grand church/abbey.
Its location in this area removes any feeling from the place.

Roscrea round tower is right in the center of Roscrea. There are 'trail' maps everywhere. Best thing to do is find one and follow the trail or just ask.
The high cross in the churchyard opposite was not there at the time of my visit. As I was leaving I noticed a small sign informing people that it was away undergoing preservationary work.
