Visit Notes

Sunday, 10th February 2002

I entered the graveyard and walked around for 5 minutes thoroughly disappointed at not finding the cross slabs and went to leave. Then I saw them, neatly lined up against the wall, cemented in place just inside the entrance.

The styles vary enormously from rectangular slabs with inscribed crosses, through cross shaped stones to finely carved slabs. It is well worth stopping off to see these.

Directions

From Mountrath head east along the N7 for about 3.2km. Look out for a layby on the left, just after one on the right. Pull in here and walk east a little until you come to the graveyard. The slabs are against the wall just inside the gate.
