Of all the monuments on top of Carnbane West this is the largest. It does not contain a passage tomb and past attempts to locate an inner chamber have left their scars on this massive cairn.
Around the north side of the monument there are some massive kerb stones visible, but slippage and spoil from the incursions have covered most of those on the other sides.
The scale of this cairn makes you wonder how large Cairn L was originally, becuase L has a large amount of space between teh current cairn material and its kerb. The size of Cairn D makes it one of my favourite monuments on this hilltop, especially when the sun shines on it.
