Visit Notes

Rath Maeve was not actually on my list of places to go on this trip, but as we passed it on the way to Hill Of Tara (County Meath) I thought, why not?. Sadly all that remains of this once great fortress is a well preserved bank near to the road. The cabbage field that it now surrounds maintains the round shape of the original fort and give some idea of the scale of the place. It was big!!! If you are in the area it's worth going to cross it off your list but not worth a special visit.

I stopped off just to see the place with no cabbages, but it is still a sad monument. With the field empty you get a greater impression of the size of the embankments, though.
