I hadn't held much hope of finding this stone and as I approached the location I had even less, because there was a modern house right where it should be. I parked up and looked over a few hedgerows and decided that it must be lost. Walking back to the car a large rock in the driveway of the new house caught my eye. Could it be?

Yes, it could! The stone looks as if it was once earthfast - it's over 1m tall now that it's freestanding. There is a fully-formed bullaun at one end of the upper surface and a shallow dip towards the other. A small channel leads from the full bullaun to the outer edge of the stone.

This is a nice example and a very nice thing to have as the centrepiece of your driveway.
