There are few sites as wonderful as this! It certainly made the 1.2km walk and 250m climb worthwhile. I tried not to think that we had another 200m to climb to reach the cairns we were heading for!
The stone is 2m tall and stands in a col or saddle between Seefin Mountain and Farbreaga Mountain. The views east and west are simply amazing. That to the west takes in the Knockmealdown mountains, while the planes of Waterford open out to the east. To the north Seefin towers upwards and, on the day of our visit, disappears into the cloud. To the south the mountain is a bit more gentle in its ascent.
Oddly the southern side of the stone has been whitewashed. Why not the north side?
50m south of the stone there is a large drystone enclosure. Who on earth built that up here!!!
