Back in 2002 my wife and I stopped at the nearby graveyard to find the ogham stone, which has now gone, so as soon as I pulled up in the lane I realised I'd been here before and had had no luck. We didn't try to get to the rock art though.
From the rear of the graveyard I could see a huge boulder by the far edge of the field behind it. I hoped this was the stone and went to the house to ask for permission. No one was home. There was no livestock in the field so I decided that, after coming so far, I would head across to it.
As I approached it got larger and larger. The boulder, once earthfast, is around 3.5m long, 1.5m tall and over 1m wide. The carvings cover most of the upper surface and showed up even without wetting them. Looking at the pictures maybe I should have wet them to make them stand out a bit more, but I'd left the water in the car (!).
Among the many cup-and-multiple-ring motifs there is one cup-ring-and-gutter design. In all I counted 8 large motifs and a couple fo smaller ones.
This is a lovely stone that should rate amongst the top Irish rock art. Sadly, it is obviously disappearing due to weathering.
