This fantastic example of rock art is part of the Clewbay Archaeological Trail and so is now well-signposted, although it is just labelled 'Site 2' and not as Boheh Rock Art or anything useful!
The monument itself is a large rock outcrop about 1.7m tall. There are at least 6 carved surfaces bearing cup and ring marks. The upper decorated surface seems to be a large slab that has been placed on the top of the outcrop. I wonder if there are any carvings beneath this. If there are I imagine that they'd be very well preserved. Well preserved is not the way you would describe the rest of the markings, which are now showing signs of eroding away. I visite while the rock was very wet and I think it would look better dry with the sun from the southwest in Summer. I will have to revisit here on a nice Summer afternoon.
It has been observed that from this site the Sun can be seen to travel down one side of Croagh Patrick on a certain day of the year. Sadly the bungalow that is right next to the stone prevents you from observing this from the stone today.

I know it was only at the start of this year that I first visited this glorious piece of rock art, but I had to come back. Also, Uta loves rock art, so how could I not come back here. She has been so busy this year that she has had very little chance to come out with me.
At this time of year the stone is rather overgrown, but it is surrounded by the brilliant orange flowers of crocosmias (I think .. well, it's definitely surrounded by orange flowers, which I think are crocosmias). To see the motifs at their best I would say winter is definitely the right time to visit.
