Visit Notes

Sunday, 14th January 2007

I'm not sure why I omitted to visit this round tower when I was last in the area. The tower and the graveyard that surrounds it are all that's left of an early monastic site. The tower is around 15m tall and has two doors. The one at ground level is presumably a later addition. The original door has a simple lintel and is 5m or so off the ground.

In the layer of stones immediately above the foundations there are two depressions on opposite sides of the tower. These look as if the may be reused bullaun stones to me.
