What can you say - Teltown, the site of the famed or, more correctly, infamous Teltown festivals. These ran from a very early, unknown date until the early 1800s when they were stopped by the church.
Rath Dubh is a huge fort about 80m in diameter. The central platform is about 4m about the level of the field around it. In several places the banks around the rim of the platform rach 1.5m high.
What truly shocked me is the view to the northwest. Looking this direction you can actually see Loughcrew!!! What a great spot to build what must have been a Royal Rath - within site of an ancient cemtery, which probably featured strongly in the lore of the people that built Rath Dubh.
From Kells follow the N3 south towards Dublin. Around 4.5km out of Kells Teltown is signposted on the left. Follow this road until it reaches what at first appears to be a t-junction. Look to your right and you will see another road that runs down the side of the school. Take this road and then take the first right. After about 400m you will see a large white house on the right. Rath Dubh is in the field behind this house.
