Of all the cairns on Patrickstown Hill Cairn X1 is the best known and most talked about. This is because the large slab at the centre of the monument has a magnificent carving on it ... well, it did have. Sadly this carving, which some have said was a representation of a Mother Goddess, has eroded very badly and can hardly be seen.

There are several stones left of the kerb one of which has some carvings on its underside. These have been protected from the elements and feel very crisp.

From this site the views across to Loughcrew - Corstown (County Meath) are amazing. Cairn T sits perfectly on the hilltop and keeps drawing your eye.

Directions

Patrickstown Hill can be reached in two ways. You can park at the main Loughcrew parking site, climb Carnbane East where cairn T is and then wander over to Patrickstown Hill, or you can park on the east side of the hill and follow the track that starts opposite the small car park there (N 603 782). To find this car park follow the N154 south from Oldcastle towards Kells. The car park is about 7km from Oldcastle on the left. To reach Cairns X1, X2 & X3 follow this track until it opens out into a meadow. In front of you there will be a big thicket of gorse bushes. The cairns are on the opposite side of these.
