This is one of Ireland's most remote tombs, being a 3km walk from the nearest house. It is worth every bit of effort to get here as well.

It isn't in fantastic condition, but it is a fine specimen. The 6m long gallery tapers almost to a point from 2m wide. The entrance is formed from two huge megaliths that resemble jambs from a court tomb. A small stone set in between them indicates that it had a split portico. Just a sole roofstone is still in place, but the quality of the double walling and the two entrance jambs, one of which leans outwards, make up for that. There is also a fallen jamb inside the gallery, which would have only blocked off half of its width. This, like the huge entrance stones and the tapering gallery, gives this tomb a passing resemblence to a court tomb.

The entrance faces west towards the dominating Slievekimalta (Keeper Hill), while Mauherslieve (Mother Hill) stands proud to the south. Here the relationship between these two 'Mother Hills' really becomes apparent.
