The modern church here is of little interest to me apart from the beautiful Romanesque doorway that is set into the northeast wall. This was originally from Trinity Island in Lough Oughter.
The decoration on this is wonderful. The frame around the door is decorated with 'Celtic' style zig-zags and almost cubist designs. The tops of the pillars supporting the outer orders have faces and beasties.
The inner arch above the door has a beautiful interlace pattern going around it, while the outer arches have 3-D chevron designs. The outermost seems to have been built from maybe two doors and doesn't match up very well at all.
This is one of the finest Romanesque doors I have seen yet and it would have been great to see the original church in all its glory.
