Just 5m off the quiet beach in Sellerna Bay, an inlet in Cleggan Bay, stands this odd bug-like tomb. The setting is wonderful. With the surf rolling up on the sand below and the wildlife buzzing and ticking and clicking away around you, the sun shining down, the sea air thick with salty-seaweedy-ness and the view of Inis Boffin to the northwest this is a lovely spot to settle and relax for a while.
The tomb consists of a 4m long gallery that is half filled with sand, shell and bits of stone. It is just 1m wide and covered by a single roof slab. Another large slab does lie at the west end, but its function is unclear. The whole structure seems to sit upon a low field wall, but it is clearly IN the wall and an earlier feature. The walls are formed with small pointed stones, none of which are over 1m tall. There are gaps between these stones making the whole thing look like it has lots of little legs.
The way Inis Boffin appears on the horizon is quite spectacular, because the southwest part of the island takes on a definite Sleeping Beauty appearance.
