Compared with the Fethard Wall (County Tipperary) Sheela I went to last week, this one is very pleasant. She has been described a 'jaunty' and I have to say I agree. She gives the impression that she is doing a little jig - one hand seems to be on her hip and the other is on her knee.
The figure is carved onto a quoin stone, which is mounted about 9 or 10m up the wall of Ballaghmore Castle - a privately owned and restored castle (available for functions etc ... I add this because when I visited I could not make myself heard even though I rang the bell loudly as the sign requests, and so proceeded to photgraph the Sheela anyway.)
I described thisone as "one you would take home to meet your mum ... especially if you'd taken the Fethard Wall Sheela home the previous week."
