| Claggan - Church |
This high cross is tall: over 3m tall. It is mainly decorated with interlace, some animals and geometric patterns. There are some sculptured scenes too, the main one, on the east face, represents the loaves and fishes miracle, but in this Jesus looks like an old man.
On the west face are two figures and a couple of lions, which probably represent St. Anthony and St. Paul.
The more 'Celtic' decoration is quite superb, especially the large swirl on the bottom portion of the east face.
There is another cross in the field further towards the bungalow (GPS - C 52490 47099), but this is lying on the floor. It has a broad head with a geometric pattern on its upper face.

I didn't recognise this site as one I'd been to before. It's really odd, but sometimes you forget about sites that you just popped into. The carvings on the base of the east face of the cross are superb. The graceful curves and swirls are truly art.
Parts of the cross have clearly been replaced, but these patched up sections do not really detract from the loveliness of the rest.
