This massive barrow was built to impress and even though it appears to have been dug in to, it still does just that. The site is best viewed from the road to the north or even from Ballysmuttan Bridge, across the Liffey, 2km to the NW.
The positioning of this mound could not have been more perfect, being on the very edge of the hilltop so that it appears to be on the summit when viewed from afar. Whoever built this one really did know what they were doing - it is visible from a great distance - and it has to be assumed that it was the resting place of somebody very important.
