This took me by surprise! In the center of a busy shopping center this complete and wonderful round tower stands proud, with people passing it by not even glancing up at its 1300 year old beauty.
It still retains its conical roof, but sadly none of its associated monastery remains. That was burned down in 1200.

Take the N81 from Dublin and head west. You will come to signs to the right directing you towards Clondalkin and Tallaght. Follow these and you will soon see the round tower. Good luck finding somewhere to park nearby.
The monastic site at Clondalkin was founded by Saint ChrÛn·n around 600 CE.
The tower is the most slender remaining round tower in Ireland.
