Hi Tom,
Thanks so much for this website and all the time you spent on that! I had been puzzled by a rock standing beside the building where I live and thanks to this website a whole ancient world opened in front of my eyes...
As I'm Italian and there's nothing of the kind available in my language (not mentioning the thousands of Italian tourists visiting Ireland every year and leaving it unaware of all these treasures!) I would be very happy to translate this very precious documentation. Would you allow that? Can I make contact with you?
Thanks so much in advance.
Elisa

Brian de Staic, the jeweler in Dingle, does beautiful replicas of many of these standing stones and personalizes pieces in Ogham writing as jewelry pieces. I got a few beautiful pieces on my trip - they are worth checking out. I believe they can be ordered online if you've already left on his website. The craftsmanship is amazing.

Yesterday I went to visit my friend Nick Moony in Doon co Offaly . We talked of days gone bye when we were young and adventurous . Then we enjoyed fishing, walking, and local history . The castle of Doon or Esker Castle as it is also known was the old location of the Moonys [note spelling] We did a short walkabout the old castle and it was very sad to see the neglect of this historic ruin . It could not be approached as in the 50s as one would have to walk through wet muck and cow s...e just to get to the north side . When we climbed the hill it was sad to see the condition with brambles and nettles blocking the approach . I felt like Hiram Bingham when he stumbled on Machu Picchu . On entering castle I noted all as it was when I fist say it over 60 years ago . Stones with a little more wet moss covering wild trees in centre area and the whole appearance in utter neglect . What would it take to get a local history group formed and organise a bit of clearance of stones and then a careful bit of restoration ?

Hi,
I'm in Ireland currently on a bit of a personal spiritual and historical journey, exploring my Irish roots, hoping to visit as many ancient sites as possible. Your site is amazing, but I'm travelling only by bus and all these places seem to only be accessable by car...can you recommend any by public transport? I'm near Dublin and will be staying in Louth and Wicklow in the coming weeks, here in Ireland until April 13.
Thanks!

THE SHEEP DIDN'T SEEM TO MIND AT ALL BEING THERE... LOL.. IT WAS SO PEACEFUL AND REVERENT.... IT IS WAY OFF THE BEATEN PATH...BUT IT IS SO WORTH THE TRIP...WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE IN THE AREA TO GO SEE THIS PIECE OF HISTORY WE ARE PLANING A RETURN TRIP NEXT YEAR.....
